The underlings approach

Yes, it's true. The weekly image has suffered the tortures of the damned and I've hesitated to post more storyboards and sketches. Hopefully some new animation makes up for it.

So here you've got a shot from the opening sequence, Xun Chin walking a path mere days ahead of our limping Mondsuul and coming across a bandit scout who we lovingly refer to as Longneck. High-falutin' hijinks ensue- OR DO THEY?!?!?

Time will tell. Look for the weekly image to make a strong return momentarily.

Major-League Distractions

If there's something to be said for the process of animation, it's painstaking. But from the inside, the first thing any animator will tell you is it requires concentration. Intense concentration.

I live in a triple in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Most people might recognize the area as being host to the Pratt campus so we get lots of students in the building and whatnot. My windows look out over a few garden plots and perhaps four or five adjacent buildings. These all connect into kindof a cave-like roofless hollow. Sound bounces off all four sides of this thing and reverbs like mad. Needless to say if there's a party in any of the gardens I know about it as soon as it starts up.

Enter the Jackass. There's this guy across the way who- for the life of me, I can't figure out why- is totally convinced that he's just G-R-E-A-T at playing the guitar. I'd say he's practicing to get better but usually after 3 years of plucking away there's some sort of improvement. Anyhow, this guy turns on a top-40 radio station and blasts it out his window. Sometimes it's a golden-oldies station, I don't know. This alone is enough to annoy people. But this guy, this turd, this monster- insists on turning up an amp and IMPROVISING over "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," blaring notes that - I'm sure of this - would make any of man's many gods DISINVENT the guitar if they weren't so busy making man fight over crap. Or is that the other way around? AnyWHO these walls are paper thin [and everyone hears every little sound] so this guy blaring his terrible excuse for music, nay, aural diahrrea resembling the worst highschool band forced to play double-time while being boiled in a vat of chicken fat- the resulting wails and bumbling instruments compressed into one string of ever-present dripping, mucus-like soundwaves bouncing around these walls and making its way to my ears, always, always he playes and I don't think I can stand for it much longer. He plays EVERY DAY. Even Sunday morning.

I would try calling the cops, but I've done that and they never find him and if they do they don't stop him for long. I would try yelling at him through the window but I've tried yelling at him through the window and it just makes him more determined to NOT learn how to play the guitar.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, they say. I have a little scheme in mind.

Ah, there. I think he's stopped. Back to animating!

Here it is, POTW #5. As with many episodic productions, we carefully reveal more and more about our characters as we go along. So expect to become more familiar not only of the world and locale, but also of the characters themselves as the series expands.

Writers and story aesthetes call it "peeling back an onion." I call it patience in practice.
